Nice analogy

December 31st, 1969 by admin

In this article;, theres a rather good analogy as to how light behaves when asked to do odd things;

“When light, however, is forced to go through a small hole, it acts like a thirteen year old forced to go clothes shopping with their parents,it rebels.”

Seasons Best

December 31st, 1969 by admin

Should any one stumble across this post during the festive season, I wish you a sincere seasons best, whatever that may be for you.

It is always towards this time of year that one comes to evaluate what has happened during the year, and to try and figure out what the future holds for us. Over the last number of years, I have begun to involve the so called ‘wider picture’ elements of life within these thoughts. As on each side of the coin, there are two different sides to this new way of thinkings, good and worrying.

Perhaps the importance of such thoughts is something we forget about too often, on a number of levels. I for one will try to keep them in mind, but not let them wear agaisnt me. Who knows if I can muster the courage and strength to tackle some them straight on…

… agains, Seasons Best,

Richard

VoIP – Skype

December 31st, 1969 by admin

Having heard mention of Skype (http://skype.com) from a number of sources, I decided to give it a blast yesterday. I was very pleasantly surprised at its ease of installation and use.

What was also very interesting was its SkypeOut product, where you buy EUR10’s worth of credit, and you can make calls to pretty much any landline in the world at a very, very reduced price. In fact, I was able to speak to my mother in France, uncle and friends in Sweden for over 20 minutes for in or around 40 cents!!!

The connection was similar to a telephone connection of old, somewhat fuzzy with intermittent crackles, but eminently worth it. I placed a call to Canada also, but the lag on the line was somewhat difficult to bear with, about 2 or 3 seconds, which was a shame.

I tried it first via Fedora Core 3, but the sound quality was not the best, although it was still listenable to. Through windows though it was much clearer. I will more than likely re-try it via linux (FC3), and try and tweak the soundcard to get it to work some better.

All in all though, well impressed!!!
