Automated bug/vulnerability testing tool

June 30th, 2005 by

This article titled Open-source projects get free checkup by automated tools, by Security Focus, is very informative in a number of ways.

It also raises a couple of points that have become more visible to me over the last while, where I have been learning an enourmous amount through work and my interests leading me through various paths.

An interesting time with plenty of ideas and thoughts, and I hope to come back to this posts with some of those ideas and thoughts.

Self-wiring supercomputer…

June 2nd, 2005 by

Via (New Scientist )

Very interesting concept, and a fairly big challenge by the look of it, will be interesting to follow the development.

Another point that this article has raised, and that has been niggling at the back of my mind for some time, is the actual power consumption of computing in general, and the effect that it may have in environmental settings. Beyond the actual power consumption of all our electronic gadgetry and computing needs, what about the endless cycle of updating the latest and shinniest hardware and gadgets?

What happens to all the old equipment, the stuff that does not get recycled, and what about the actual production process of all the hardware? Are we really conscious of all that is involved in developing and producing say a new mp3 player, a new flat screen monitor, or even a batch of CD-R’s…?

Makes me wonder at times… But yeah, anything that can cut down on the power consumption needed, has the thumbs up from me.
