The story behind ‘The Beacon’

The Beacon, originally uploaded by eibrandr.

This shot was taken on Sunday morning when I woke up at stupid o’clock (6am on a sunday…).

I was up, and while having my cup of coffee, looked out the window. The sky was relatively clear, and I figured that I had time to get to Dun Laoghaire to grab some sunrise shots.

The initial location I had thought of, by the martello tower was not the greatest, and although the colours were good, there was nothing I was able to capture that would make me happy. On top of that I had fears that my camera was going belly up, as the shutter mode had changed, it would not auto focus and other foibles had me worried.

Until I realised that is, that these were all the settings I had used when trying a tethering app for my D60 on Ubuntu (gtimelapse is the name). So got over that and switched to manual all the way …

I left that spot, and thouht of Dalkey quary, where I used to go climbing many moons ago now… I walked up to the top, and the sunrise was still nothing that got me. As I decided to walk back to the car, I saw the little enclosure pictured here. Something about this grabbed my attention, so I snapped away. It was not until this evening that I realised that I had seen something in this – just had to work on it a little – and here you go!
