Indeed it would, and its nice to see that it is apparently something on the way, and as stephen mentions,

Well, guess what? Sun’s got good news for you, because they - with help from the Debian & Ubuntu communities - have taken the time to fix the license for Java and the distros have noticed.

In the meantime, this app is also very handy, java-package as is alien, if you only have the rpm version (on a debian/ubuntu machine).

and yes, they are apt-getable!

I run ubuntu as my desktop, and I more than pleased with it, occasionally I have to wander back into the world of Windows, but never stay very long. It is beginning to feel more and more alien to me.
